The Song of Songs
Pärt Uusberg — Composer Portrait Concert
Chamber Choir Head Ööd, Vend
Estonian National Male Choir
Tallinn Chamber Orchestra
Conductors Mikk Üleoja and Pärt Uusberg
To celebrate Pärt Uusberg’s milestone birthday in December, the Estonian National Male Choir has invited not only the composer himself, but also two dear musical collaborators to join the festivities: the chamber choir Head Ööd, Vend and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. The National Male Choir shares a kind of “kinship” with the former through several singers who perform with both ensembles, while its relationship with the latter is rooted in a long-standing creative collaboration.
The concert will feature Pärt Uusberg’s a cappella works for mixed choir and male choir, as well as works accompanied by string orchestra. Two new works will also be heard: Landscapes of Uku Masing, dedicated to Mikk Üleoja, and the mixed-choir cycle Landscapes of Heiti Talvik.
Pärt Uusberg: “For me, there is something resonant between the worlds of these two poets, while both also connect naturally with the month of November and the Season of Souls. Alongside Estonian poetry that is especially close to my heart, the programme also includes works set to sacred texts. In a sense, the common denominator of the entire programme could be the Season of Souls and a gaze turned upwards.”
